With baby-led weaning, your baby is in charge, the baby feeds herself! It might be the best thing to happen in the high chair since the invention of the bib.

Several Baby Tastes preservative-free baby food product combinations can be used in baby-led weaning due to the texture, for example, our Mixed Vegetable Risotto and Lamb, Pea, Pasta and Tomato, can be eaten by hand, helping to develop fine motor skills, eye-hand coordination, dexterity and offers the baby a chance to explore textures.

Mia’s Mighty Meatballs & Pesto Pasta, Cameron’s Crazy Chicken Meatballs, Gemma’s Great Chicken Gratin, Max’s Marvellous Macaroni Cheese and Shane’s Shimmering Tuna Pasta are all ideal to facilitate baby-led weaning. It is essential that all meals are served under adult supervision.

Steaming large chunks of butternut, pumpkin, sweet potato, broccoli and cauliflower is also a good way to encourage the baby to feed herself.

Finger Foods

Finger foods are nugget size pieces of food that are given at the same time as the meal, to encourage the pincer grip.
Once your baby can hold things in her fingers, try giving her the following finger foods – under supervision

  • peeled pear, banana
  • seedless grapes, cut in half
  • cubes of cheese
  • toast
  • cooked pasta
  • sausage
  • whole pieces of steamed vegetables that can be squished between your (mom’s) fingers easily.

Baby-led weaning has many advantages including helping your baby gain confidence by allowing her to choose what she wants to eat. Baby gets used to different food textures from the start and of course by feeding your baby the food you are eating which will be preservative-free baby food it is a win-win.
