HOW TO TELL IF YOUR BABY IS READY FOR SOLIDS:

(IT IS ALWAYS BEST TO CONSULT YOUR NURSING SISTER OR PEDIATRICIAN BEFORE STARTING SOLIDS)

– your baby is between 4 and 6 months old

– your baby has doubled his/her birth weight

– baby can sit unaided and hold it’s head up high for longer periods

– baby can pick up items with his/her finger and thumb (pincer grasp)

– baby opens mouth wide when you  offer them food off a spoon

– baby is eyeing or reaching for your food

– your baby is healthy and has reached age appropriate mile stones and does not have a fever or stuffy nose

WHY WE DEVELOPED OUR ONE OF A KIND UNIQUE PACKAGING

Our Baby Tastes tray has a story of its own. Our 12 cavity tray is exclusively manufactured for Baby Tastes and cannot be found anywhere else. The cubes allow you to mange the portion size of meals with little or no waste. If baby is still hungry after a feed, it is quick and easy to pop out an extra cube or 2 – defrost, heat and feed. No more 1/2 eaten jars of food that should not be kept once opened. Our cubes lend themselves incredibly well to over 40 different flavour combinations as our Tweenies, Dinkies, Meaties and Spinkies varieties can be combined with one another for wonderful variety and texture.

Our Stages Explained

A tasty, wholesome introduction to solid baby food

Starting with stage 1 & 2

4 – 6 MONTHS – LET’S GET GOING

Starting solids? Our Tweenies trays make this exciting yet challenging time easy to manage and stress-free.

Introduce rice cereal for breakfast – it is best to buy an unsweetened rice cereal – your local baby store will have a number to choose from.

Using our Stage 1 Tweenies – Introduce 1 single variety veggie at lunch time and feed the same veggie for 2 – 3 days to make sure there are no allergic reactions – for example butternut for 2 – 3 days, followed by sweet potato, squash etc.

Continue with your breast milk and/or bottle milk feeds.

Once baby is happy  with lunch, introduce veggies at dinner.

Our Stage 2 Frooties can be mixed with rice cereal for breakfast or full fat unsweetened natural Greek Yoghurt, or serve as a dessert after veggies at lunch and dinner.

Once you have progressed through both Tweenies trays, start on our Stage 2 Dinkies combination veggie trays. Don’t be shy to combine various cubes for great variety.

Baby will consume between 1 – 4 cubes in a sitting depending on appetite.

(please note that some opinions suggest introducing all vegetables from the very beginning, it is best to be guided by your nursing sister or pediatrician)

Introducing stage 3

5 – 7 MONTHS – MAKING PROGRESS

Once our Tweenies and Dinkies have been well received and enjoyed, you can start introducing our Stage 3 Meaties combinations for lunch and dinner.

Meaties can be combined with any of our Tweenies and Dinkies combinations giving you and your baby endless flavour and texture combinations to enjoy.

ie. 1 X chicken, butternut & leek cube, 1 X lentil, pumpkin & carrot and 1 X plain squash

Babies appetite with vary depending on growth spurts, teething and general well being – on average baby will enjoy 3 – 6 cubes per sitting.

Introducing stage 4

6 – 8 MONTHS – LOOK AT ME GO

Once our Tweenies, Dinkies and Meaties combinations have been well received, it’s time to introduce Spinkies. Spinkies, Dinkies and Tweenies can be combined for amazing variety and texture.

8 MONTHS ONWARDS – YIKES I’M A SUPER EATER NOW

Baby is enjoying all our stages as well as finger food that you have been introduced. Suggested Finger foods include: dried mango, biltong snap sticks, whole strawberries, pieces of toast, cooked broccoli florets, cheese, cooked pasta, boiled egg, small bananas and soft fruits that baby can hold.

NEVER LEAVE BABY UNATTENDED WHEN HE/SHE IS EATING AND MAKE SURE THAT WHEN FEEDING, YOU ARE MINDFUL OF SIGNS BABY MAY GIVE IF HE/ SHE IS IN DISTRESS OR WHEN FULL

Introducing stage 5 – Kiddies Tastes

9/10 MONTHS – WOW I’M ALMOST READY FOR KIDDIES TASTES BUT STILL LIKE MY BABY TASTES

If you feel that your baby is ready for a more textured diet, now is the time to start introducing some of our Kiddies Tastes meals, namely:

Bella’s fish Pie – poached hake with broccoli, carrot and cauliflower in a creamy cheese sauce with potato topping

Ali’s veggie Pie – delicious vegetables in a creamy sauce with sweet potato topping and herby feta crumbles

Zoe’s cottage Pie – beef mince, lentils, spinach and carrot topped with stripes of mashed potato and butternut

Max’s macaroni cheese – macaroni tossed in a cheesy sauce with mushrooms, fresh tomato and herbs

Scott’s salmon fishcakes – salmon and potato fishcakes with yummy vegetables in a white sauce

Our Cameron’s chicken meatballs and Mia’s beef meatballs are ideal finger foods for your baby.

Our suggestion is to heat ½ a tub of Kiddies Tastes and continue to add 1 – 2 cubes of Stage 1 – 4 with the meal so that baby adapts easily to the more textured meals.

10/12 MONTHS ONWARDS – I’M DONE WITH BABY FOOD – I’M A KIDDIES TASTES LOVER

Kiddies Tastes are the choice of the day and you are done with baby food.
